Free Career Training Programs
Are you interested in nursing or mental health? Are you looking for a career in healthcare?
Lifespan’s Workforce Solutions, Training and Teamwork (STAT) program offers free education to under- and unemployed adults (18+) to become certified for entry-level health care positions in the fields of nursing, mental health, pharmacy and more. All programs are designed to be fully comprehensive, including in-field learning, job skill training, financial support for barriers to employment, and case management services.

Available Programs
The following programs are offered:
Patient Support Specialist Program
Trained patient support specialists can work in non-clinical roles such as unit secretaries and patient support representatives. This program prepares its participants with the education and hands-on learning necessary to perform the duties to be qualified for these, and similar, positions. Training includes a wide variety of skills such as customer service, patient conflict resolution, patient education, knowledge of insurance, Electronic Health Records, phone etiquette, and various computing/software skills. Graduates who complete this program can expect to begin careers in this meaningful healthcare profession right away.

Learn more about the Patient Support Specialist Training Program
Mental Health Training Program
The field of behavioral health features a variety of professions, each offering several career paths at both Bradley Hospital and Gateway. You will gain practical work experience with in-person training and internship opportunity with local Lifespan affiliate partners. In addition, you will participate in work-readiness trainings to build employability skills. Students who successfully complete this program will have the following certifications: AHA Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider, AHA First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid.

Nursing Assistant Training Program
Being a Nursing Assistant is a rewarding health care position with a range of job opportunities in a variety of work settings and patient populations. Each cohort of students will participate in classroom training with partnering institutions, hands-on experience at a Lifespan hospital, clinical rotations, and a four-week unpaid internship. Participants will achieve their AHA Basic Life Support certification and, after successfully completing the program, the possibility of full-time employment.

Medical Assistant Training Program
Medical assistants play an essential role on a patient’s care team. This program, in partnership with The Genesis Center or Rhode Island College, provides students with practical work experience and networking opportunities, work-readiness training and workshops, classroom and internship training, and more. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to sit for the National CCMA exam.
Upcoming Information Sessions
The Feb 2023 cohort is now closed to applicants. Our next MA cohort will begin in August 2023 and we anticipate beginning recruitment in May 2023. Informational session dates will be posted shortly once the calendar is available.
Pharmacy Technician II Training Program
Pharmacy Technicians provide meaningful care for patients. This program, in partnership with Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), provides students with an externship experience at a Lifespan hospital, classroom learning and labs at CCRI, networking opportunities, work-readiness training and workshops, and more. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Pharmacy Technician II license.
The next cohort start date will be March 6, 2023.
