Congenital Heart Program
Congenital Heart Program
The first group of children to have surgery at an early age for heart defects is now returning for surgical treatment of residual defects or sequelae from the previous repair. These defects include leaky valves, narrowing of the valve, replacement of the aorta and reconstruction of the chamber of the heart. At the Congenital Heart Program of the Lifespan Cardiovascular Institute, our team of pediatric and adult congenital cardiologists and experienced surgeons are specially trained to provide these services.
We believe our unique collaboration of pediatric and adult cardiologists, surgeons and nurse practitioners is the best way to care for patients with congenital heart disease. It is the only program in the state in which both adult and pediatric cardiologists and surgeons work together to determine treatment. We treat patients who are newly diagnosed, who are recovering from surgery and those who are making a transition from a pediatric setting into an adult environment as either inpatients or outpatients. Our advances in medical and surgical techniques have helped an increasing number of children with congenital heart disease survive well into adulthood and adults to continue to lead healthy and productive lives.
