Premature Ejaculation (PE)
What is it?
Premature ejaculation (PE) is when ejaculation comes in response to minimal stimulation just before or shortly after penetration. The male is not able to delay ejaculation, which may result in psychological distress to one or both partners.
How is it evaluated?
A history and physical examination are usually sufficient to diagnose premature ejaculation.
Am I at risk?
Premature ejaculation affects up to 30% of men and can happen at any age. It is the most common sexual disorder in men under 40 years old. Although PE may be difficult to talk about, it can be treated by professionals with expertise in sexual health.
How is premature ejaculation treated?
Treatment includes psychotherapy, topical medications and oral medications.
