Functional Capacity Evaluation
We have staff members certified in the ErgoScience Physical Work Performance Evaluation, an intensive, four-hour evaluation to determine a person's ability to work as well as what level of work he or she can tolerate. This protocol emphasizes standardization, objectivity, reliability and validity in clinical measurement.
Tactical Athlete Capabilities
The Rhode Island Hospital Tactical Athlete Program is designed to provide education and rehabilitation services to professional EMTs, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and military personnel. All services are provided by certified athletic trainers and licensed physical therapists who have received specialized training in sports medicine.
Tactical athletes risk their lives to protect others’ lives and property each day. As a tactical athlete, your physical fitness is vital to your ability to safely and effectively perform your job. By participating in this program, you get the resources you need to save your own life and the lives of countless others.
Each athlete is evaluated by the sports medicine specialist and an appropriate treatment plan is designed. Rhode Island Hospital offers a comprehensive health care team to assist the tactical athlete in performing optimally. Services include:
- Injury prevention
- Rehabilitation from sports and orthopedic injuries
- Nutrition education
- Burn and wound care
- Concussion program
The Work Conditioning Program’s goal is to return the worker to full duty as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible. The worker is first evaluated to determine baseline functional abilities and material handling limits. An individualized program that considers the patient’s work duties is developed. The patient attends work conditioning sessions three or four days a week for two hours each day.
