2023
The Miriam Hospital earned the “Top Hospital in Rhode Island” designation from US News & World Report for the 12th year in a row in its 2023 to 2024 report on the best hospitals in the country. The Miriam also ranked as the Top Hospital in the Providence metro area, which includes Providence, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Fall River, Massachusetts, and New Bedford, Massachusetts. .
The hospital’s specialized adult orthopedics services received a "high performing" rank for care and treatment. Additionally, US News & World Report awarded The Miriam a "high performing" rating for 10 common adult procedures and conditions.
The Total Joint Center at The Miriam Hospital continued to meet the rigorous performance standards of The Joint Commission when it earned its fourth Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement in 2023. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. This is the fourth time the Total Joint Center has received this designation, having earned initial certification in 2017.
2022
US News & World Report Recognizes High Performance
When The Miriam Hospital was ranked 2022 to 2023 Best Regional Hospital by US News & World Report, the Total Joint Center was recognized for its “high performance” in both hip replacements and knee replacements.
We are honored by this prestigious distinction, while remaining the region’s highest volume program for total joint replacement, with clinical and quality outcomes that rank among the best in the nation.
2021
Gold Seal of Approval
The Total Joint Center at The Miriam Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. In 2021, we were, once again, awarded with this highly regarded certification. We are proud to be recognized for our expert care and patient safety. The Total Joint Center will continue to uphold the quality, consistency, and safety standards of services and patient care set by The Joint Commission.
2020
The Miriam Hospital Achieves National Rank
The Miriam Hospital is proud to have been ranked 2020-2021 Best Regional Hospital and Top Hospital in Rhode Island by the US News and World Report. In addition to this honor, our urology services were ranked nationally, landing 27th on a list of 50 hospitals deemed to have the best urology program in the country. We are honored to have been given these prestigious accolades by such a respectable publication.

The Miriam Hospital has been named by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of 100 hospitals across the country with great orthopedic programs. The national program recognizes hospitals that show exceptional expertise and cost efficiency, based on objective clinical measures. The designation helps patients who are seeking treatment find the quality care and value they desire.

The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval
In 2019, the Total Joint Center once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The certification recognizes that the Total Joint Center upholds the quality, consistency and safety standards of services and patient care set by The Joint Commission.
Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital Named Blue Distinction Centers
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island named Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital Blue Distinction Centers for knee and hip replacement for 2018. Hospitals are designated as Blue Distinction Centers in recognition of their expertise in delivering quality care and improved patient safety, based on objective clinical measures that result in better outcomes for patients.

Blue Distinction Center Designation for Knee and Hip Replacement
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) has named The Miriam Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center in Knee and Hip Replacement. The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program is a national designation awarded to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care.
