Karen Jennings Mathis, PhD, APRN-CNP, PMHNP-BC, is a research scientist at the Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine (CBPM) at The Miriam Hospital.
Dr. Jennings Mathis's research focuses on biopsychosocial mechanisms linking chronic and acute stress with eating disorders psychopathology within Black populations with a focus on intersectionality and discrimination. Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Health, Rockefeller University Heilbrunn Family Center for Research, and other professional organizations.
She earned a BA in Psychology from Amherst College and a MS and PhD in nursing from Boston College. Subsequently, Dr. Jennings Mathis completed the NIMH T32 Midwest Regional Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Chicago, was tenure-track faculty at the University of Rhode Island, and is a scholar of the NIMHD Health Disparities Research Institute.
