“Find a Doctor” is operated by Lifespan and includes all physicians who are on the medical staffs of Lifespan-affiliated hospitals, without any charge to them. Selection is based upon your needs and preferences. Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Lifespan or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Lifespan’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Lifespan hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Lifespan. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Lifespan or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Lifespan-affiliated medical staff physicians.

Daniels, MD, a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in adult spinal deformity and other complex spinal disorders, is chief of the Division of Spine Surgery and director of the Adult Spinal Deformity Service at Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals, part of the Lifespan Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Daniels is also a professor of orthopedic surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and co-director of the Brown Spine Surgery Fellowship.
Dr. Daniels is a high-volume spine surgeon, performing over 500 spine surgeries per year. His practice focuses on patients who suffer from scoliosis, kyphosis, flatback syndrome, failed spinal surgery, degenerative spinal disease, as well as spinal trauma and spinal tumors. Many of his patients have undergone one or more previous spinal surgeries, although he also performs primary spinal surgery.
Dr. Daniels completed medical school at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, and orthopedic surgery residency training at Brown University. He then completed additional spine surgery fellowship training with Mark Palumbo, MD and Phil Lucas, MD, before being recruited back to Rhode Island as their partner. His research focuses on spinal biomechanics, optimization of outcomes following spinal deformity surgery, and prevention of complications after spine surgery.
Additionally, Dr. Daniels is an internationally renowned researcher and has published over 480 peer-reviewed articles, 550 national and international research posters/presentations, and has edited four orthopedic education textbooks. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Lumbar Spine Research Society, and the Scoliosis Research Society. His research has won many awards, including the SRS Whitecloud, Russell A. Hibbs, and John H. Moe awards.
